A QUIET DAY IN CARMEL

We were up in decent time for a walk down to the beach and along the sand for a ways...

... but the cold wind soon drove us back inland and we finished our walk through the charming residential streets of Carmel. Charming and not cheap. We picked up a flyer at a small cottage marked "For Sale." Seven million. Well, it did claim a second cottage on the property, somewhere out of sight, but even so...

Breakfast in our hotel room, and a lazy morning reading Sunday's New York Times. Then a stroll around town, a stop at a clothing store where I found a good pair of sneakers at half price, and the discovery of a restaurant, Grasings, where we ate a while ago on our "Travels with George" and liked very much. Booked for an early evening dinner. Coffee. Lunch with our friend, the painter Susan Thacker, and a restful afternoon at our hotel. A little TV news. The NY Times Sunday crossword...

And a fine dinner at Grasings. A pleasant way to spend the day. We could wish it were a little warmer in this part of the world. Highs in the mid-fifties seems quite cold to us Southern Californians! Or, as Ellie says, "freezing"!
