That Puppy Dog

Okay, you know
the story, how

the puppy-dog, un-
leashed will soon
rip up your home.

He'll gnaw the legs
of the table, chew up
your favorite slippers.

He'll take a piss
on the carpet, make
life a misery.

Train him, this
same puppy dog
's your friend forever.

Rilke, the poet, wrote
famously "you must
change your life."

I say, rather, and more
simply, you must
change your mind.
